Wong Fei-Hong - Once Upon A Time In China Theme (Cantonese Lyrics)

Full lyrics with English translation:
男兒當自强    narm yee dong jee keung      Man Should Self-Strengthen

o hay o siu marn chown long      yit huit yit sing hown yut gong
With proud spirit & laugh proudly like 10,000 waves    Blood is hot that is hotter than red sunlight
Gallbladder like forged by iron      Bones like refined steel
(Chinese people believe that a strong & big gallbladder means strong & big courage/audacity, like balls in the West)
hown kum bark chin jeung      arn gong marn lay cheung
Bosom as wide as hundreds & thousands jeung     Foresight as far-reaching as 10,000 miles (1 jeung=10 Chinese feet)
site fun fat jee keung     jo ho hon
Swear to work hard & self-strengthen      To be a real man
jo gor ho hon jee     mui tin yiu jee keung
To be a real man     Need to self-strengthen every day
yit huit narm jee      yit sing hown yut gong
Hot blooded man      Hotness is hotter than red sunlight

yeung hoy tin wite or jui nun leung       hui hoy tin pick day
Let the ocean & sky amass energy for me       To open up the sky, flatten the land
wite or lay seung hui chong
To venture forward for my ideals
hon big bor go jong        yau hon big hown gong food ho hay yeung
Look the blue waves are tall & strong      Look again the blue sky is broad & wide, the vast spirit is surging
gay see narm yee dong jee keung
As a man, one should self-strengthen

ong bo ting hown die ga jog dont leung       jo ho hon
Walk with big steps & stand-out chest, everyone will be a pillar      To be a real man
yown or bark dim yit       yiu chuk chin fun gong
Use my a hundred droplets of heat      To shine out a thousand units of light
jo gor ho hon jee      yit huit jit cheung yit      yit sing hown yut gong
To be a real man      With hot blood & hot guts     Hotness is hotter than red sunlight *

  1. This was originally composed for a Ming Dynasty general in Hangzhou who defeated the Japanese pirates harassing China's east coast. Originally called "General's Mandate", but yeah, its a kickass entrance theme!
